Two black mambas rescued at South Coast surfboard factory
While the sight of a black mamba can be alarming, Sarel van der Merwe said snakes play an important role in the ecosystem and should never be harmed.
Veteran snake rescuer Sarel van der Merwe was called into action once again after two large black mambas were discovered at the Gary Maisch (Wedge Surfboards) factory.
The latest rescues add to a long list of snake removals Sarel has carried out at the factory over the years, with the property proving to be a regular hotspot for reptile activity.

According to Sarel, the two highly venomous snakes were safely captured and relocated away from the farm.
While the sight of a black mamba can be alarming, Sarel said snakes play an important role in the ecosystem and should never be harmed.

“Many people panic when they see a snake, but most incidents can be resolved safely if a trained rescuer is called,” he said.
Sarel has responded to countless call-outs across the South Coast over the years, rescuing a variety of species from homes, businesses and public spaces.
