Emotions high at screening of ‘The Voice of Hind Rajab’ in Port Shepstone
South Coasters came out in their numbers at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre.
The Voice of Hind Rajab, a critically acclaimed docudrama by Oscar-nominated director Kaouther Ben Hania, was screened at Port Shepstone Civic Centre on June 19, by humanitarian Selvan Chetty from the Port Shepstone Human Rights Centre (PSHRC).

The film had nearly everyone in tears over the tragic story of five-year-old Hind Rajab, a Palestinian girl trapped in a car in Gaza.

“The audience reflected the diversity of the South Coast community. This screening reminded us why PSHRC exists. Hind Rajab’s voice reached the world through a desperate phone call for help. The tears in the hall showed that we still have empathy. Now we must turn that empathy into action, both here at home and in solidarity with others across the world,” said Chetty.

Albersville resident, Sal Musa said throughout the screening, it felt as though he was experiencing the pain and hardship first-hand. “By the end, I could no longer hold back my emotions and broke down. This is a real-life documentary that reaches deep into one’s heart and soul.”

“I hope that documentaries such as this reach audiences across the world and inspire people to stand up and speak out against apartheid, oppression, injustice, and genocide – not only against the Palestinian people, but against any people facing persecution and suffering. May it encourage greater awareness, compassion, and a commitment to defending the dignity and human rights of all people.
