Most South Coast beaches temporarily closed for shark net servicing
Margate Beach remains open while maintenance is under way.
Beachgoers are advised that all Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) bathing beaches, with the exception of Margate Beach, have been temporarily closed while shark nets are being serviced.
In a service delivery update issued earlier today (Friday), the municipality said the temporary closures are necessary to allow for the maintenance of the shark safety equipment and are in the interest of public safety.
Margate Beach is the only bathing beach that remains open during the servicing period.
RNM has urged residents and visitors to comply with the closures and avoid entering the water at affected beaches until further notice.
“The municipality wishes to advise members of the general public and beachgoers that all RNM bathing beaches are closed due to servicing of the shark nets. This is in the interest of public safety,” the notice stated.
The municipality apologised for the inconvenience and said a further update will be issued once the servicing has been completed and there are developments regarding the reopening of the beaches.
Residents are encouraged to follow official municipal communication channels for the latest updates.
