Margate Scouts show off skills at open day
The purpose of the day was to showcase the movement to the public.
It was all about adventure and fun activities at the First Margate Scouts open day in Uvongo on July 4.
Scout group leader Chris Pieters said that the purpose of the day was to showcase Scouts to the public.

“We have been operating from this hall for about 35 years and we want to remind the public that we are here, and show them that what we are doing is fun and adventurous.”

There are three groups – Meerkats, Cubs and Scouts – from ages five years to 18.
Nicolla Feyt, leader of the Meerkats said life skills are taught by doing activities and playing games.

“We are teaching them things like why you can’t touch people’s blood, how to put on gloves, how to put someone in a recovery position because a five or six year old is more then capable of doing that.”

Sonica Joubert and Tristen Eva took visitors on a tour inside the dens. Both gave informative details and spoke about their roles, and what they have learned in Scouts.
