OppiKus Musiekfees rocks the South Coast

The impressive musical line-up wowed the crowd.

The sixth OppiKus Musiekfees showcased some of South Africa’s top musical talent, drawing crowds of South Coast residents and holidaymakers to the Douglas Mitchell Showgrounds in Uvongo on July 10 and 11.

Friday’s (July 10) entertainment kicked off with local favourites Shaun Wulf and The Gentry, setting the tone for an unforgettable weekend. The Saxby Twins delighted the younger audience with their energetic pop performance, while Demi Lee Moore’s powerful vocals captivated the crowd. Headliner Bok van Blerk closed the evening in spectacular fashion, bringing the house down.

The Saxby twins get the younger crowd on their feet with their upbeat dance pop grooves.

Saturday’s programme was affected by intermittent rain but festival-goers embraced the conditions. They enjoyed standout performances by Bobby van Jaarsveld, Bernice West, and Riaan Benade, who kept the crowd on their feet throughout the day.

Impressively organised by Margate Round Table 46, the festival featured a wide variety of vendors offering delicious meals, snacks, coffee, refreshments and more. Rugby supporters also enjoyed watching the Springboks defeat Scotland on a giant LED screen.

Jannie Sounes came from Ballito with his Digital Mobile Advertising Vehicle, so that festival-goers could catch the rugby on Saturday night.

Margate Round Table 46 chairman, Shane Woolley, reflected on the success of the event:

“Unfortunately, attendance was lower than anticipated, reflecting the challenging economic climate. Operationally, however, this was undoubtedly the smoothest and best-organised OppiKus Musiekfees to date. The atmosphere inside the tent was incredible, and the music was world-class.

Demi Lee Moore captivated with her powerful vocals, especially on her cover of country hit “Neon Moon”.
