Port Shepstone Girl Guides prepare jars of hope for families in need

Local generosity saw 260 Jars of Hope filled on Mandela Day.

The Port Shepstone Girl Guides have made a meaningful difference in the community by preparing more than 260 Jars of Hope as part of their Mandela Day initiative.

The project invited community members to donate empty jars and non-perishable food items, including rice, pasta, soup powder, soup mix, lentils and stock cubes. The ingredients were layered into jars to create nutritious meals for families facing hardship.

The completed jars have now been handed over to the Shelly Beach Rotary Club, Port Shepstone Rotary Club and Port Shepstone Methodist Church, where they will be distributed to those in need.

The initiative highlighted the spirit of Mandela Day by encouraging the community to work together to support vulnerable families, with every jar providing a simple but nourishing meal and a message of hope.
