Municipality tackles stormwater challenges at Umzinto testing ground
It was determined that the existing asphalt driveway was inadequate to manage stormwater flow.
Umdoni Municipality’s Roads and Stormwater Section have been addressing challenges at the Umzinto Testing Ground driveway.
The team aims to resolve persistent stormwater drainage problems in this vicinity.
It was determined that the existing asphalt driveway was inadequate to manage stormwater flow. As a solution, the asphalt was removed last week and replaced with a concrete ditch drain to ensure long-term resilience.
This included excavation to a depth of 500mm to prepare the foundation, casting concrete with a broom–finish mix for durability and improved traction, and the installation of a stormwater pipe to safely discharge excess water into the Umzinto River.
The mayor, Mbali Cele-Luthuli, commends the team for the intervention.
