Heavy rain puts Ray Nkonyeni Municipality emergency teams on high alert
Municipality urges residents to avoid flooded areas as 60mm of rain falls in one day.
The Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) has urged residents to remain vigilant as persistent rainfall continues across the South Coast, with emergency teams on high alert.
According to the municipality, rainfall recorded by 09:00 on Wednesday, July 29, totalled 60mm, following 22mm recorded on Tuesday, July 28.
Although no major incidents had been reported at the time of issuing the update, RNM said its Emergency Services teams were continuously monitoring conditions across the municipal area.
Residents have been advised to avoid flooded roads, rivers and low-lying areas, and to exercise caution while travelling.
“The Ray Nkonyeni Municipality continues to closely monitor the prevailing weather conditions across the municipal area,” the municipality said in a statement.
Residents requiring emergency assistance within the municipality can contact the 24-hour Emergency Control Centre on 039 682 5555.
The municipality encouraged the public to stay informed and follow all safety precautions while the wet weather persists.
