Umdoni Local Municipality's traditional leaders meet KZN premier
Practical interventions were discussed to improve the lives of residents.
To strengthen collaboration between the provincial government and traditional leadership, KZN Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli met with amakhosi and izinduna in Umdoni on October 6.
Umdoni traditional leaders raised challenges affecting their respective communities with the premier and discussed practical interventions to improve the lives of residents.
Ntuli emphasised the important role of amakhosi and zinduna in identifying challenges at community level and that these concerns and needs of residents should be communicated to government.
The meeting also provided a platform for dialogue on how government and traditional leadership could work more closely to address issues affecting communities and strengthen the coordination of interventions on the ground.
Ntuli said meaningful engagement with traditional leadership remained essential to ensuring that government understood the realities experienced by communities and could respond more effectively to their needs.
The premier further stressed the importance of moving beyond identifying challenges towards developing practical solutions and ensuring that matters raised by communities were directed to the appropriate government structures for attention.
He said sustained cooperation between government, amakhosi and izinduna would assist in ensuring that communities remained active in shaping solutions to the challenges they faced.
