Maths whizzes make Scottburgh High proud
The learners participated in a maths competition in which they did exceptionally well.
During the year, the junior learners at Scottburgh High School (SHS) embarked on a journey of mathematics competition via an internal Olympiad hosted by the head of mathematics, Strini Pillay and his mathematics teachers.
The entry into the Olympiad began with mental math quizzes in which qualifiers moved onto further rounds of complex mathematics questions.
SHS believes that the future of the country’s prosperity begins with preparing strong mathematicians from a young age and that mathematics is a global reach subject which impacts on critical and analytical thinking beyond the relationship of our trigonometric ratios. Mathematics exists everywhere, is used in every sphere of life and its presence cannot be denied.
“We believe that if every learner excels in mathematics competition, we have enhanced a sector of society that will go on do greater things and hopefully give back to our community.”
Adhi Hiraman and Sebastian Cruger who are in Grade 9H placed joint second and were presented with certificates. The winner is Hong Wei Fang in Grade 8P.
Hong Wei was presented with a certificate and a book prize sponsored by Autowagon Service & Repair Centre. The book is by South African author Michelle Sciacca and titled Epic Tales of Skydalon.
The school congratulates its learners for their brilliant effort.
