Special needs centre turns nine

It has become a tradition to celebrate the school's birthday by each learner icing and decorating their own cupcake.

Megan Du Plessis Special Needs Centre celebrated its ninth birthday recently. The centre started in Shelly Beach in 2014 with just a handful of learners, but after outgrowing the premises, they joined up with the Megan Du Plessis Foundation and the centre moved to Shelford Farm, Bushy Vales.

There on the farm, the learners can enjoy the beauty of nature while overlooking a nearby dam, and experience farmlands every day. The centre now has six groups, three in the junior section and three in the senior section. It has become a tradition to celebrate the birthday by each learner icing and decorating their own cupcake.

As can be seen in the photo, the Blue class decided to use blue icing sugar for their cupcakes, along with a variety of sweets. And a birthday celebration wouldn’t be complete without candles.
