Cowie Cup victory for Sheppie High

Sisanda Malishe was the player of the match.

Port Shepstone High‘s first team football boys won the prestigious Cowie Cup, beating rivals Carter High School 2-1 in regular time.

It was a hard fought game filled with immense excitement and some nail-biting moments, especially with Sheppie High going down 1-0 with seven minutes to play. The boys did not let that get the better of them and fought back with an equaliser by Langa Mtshali after a lack of judgement by the Carter defence. Then in additional time, a perfect corner kick by Sisanda Malishe was headed home by Thamsanqa Njakazi to clinch the game.

Player of the match, judged by Supersport commentator Sbonelo Zulu, was awarded to Sisanda Malishe.

“Thanks must go to the supporters who came out in numbers to support us and to acting principal Kerry McKillen for being at every single game throughout the unbeaten season,” said captain Kwandile Ndlovu. “Most importantly, we want to give credit to Coach Nhlanhla Mbili, for without him this win would not have been possible.”

The full team consisted of Lwandiso Mavundla (goalkeeper), Sbonokuhle Dlamini, Sphesihle Zindla, Langalethu Mtshali, Sanele Dazela, Thamsanqa Njakazi, Uyanda Doyisa, Sisanda Malishe, Saneliso Madlala, Kwandile Ndlovu (captain) and Xolani Mavundla. Substitutes were Sakhile Mjokovana, Mhlengi Shibe, Mthayelanga Baleni, Sbulele Myeki and Mosa Maseti.
