Matriculants applauded

The Umdoni circuit achieved a pass rate of 82.2%.

The long-awaited 2023 matric results are out, and learners in KZN have done exceptionally well.

Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, said the pass rate of this class is exceptional and the learners have shown great resilience.

Motshekga referred to the more than 700 000 learners who passed as ‘real Covid-19 babies’ who did not have it easy, as they were exposed to the pandemic during Grade 9 and 10 and had to endure the gravest load shedding in history during their final year.

The Ugu District placed second in KZN. Ugu mayor Cllr Sikhumbuzo Zero Mqadi congratulated the class of 2023 and stated that once again, they have made strides by being placed one of the top performing districts in the province with a pass rate of 89.5%.

Under Ugu, the Umdoni circuit achieved a pass rate of 82.2%. Some of the top performing schools include Scottburgh High with a 98.9% pass rate, Gugulesizwe Secondary with 85.9%, Umzinto Secondary with 84.9%, Roseville Secondary with 81.1% and Malangeni Secondary with 79.2%.

Umdoni’s acting mayor Cllr Mthandeni Mbutho congratulated all learners, as well as the teachers and parents who assisted in achieving this outstanding outcome.
