Top marks for Phathwa Secondary

The school has produced outstanding results in the last three years

Phathwa Secondary School, located in the rural village of Gcilima, has achieved a remarkable 92.2% matric pass rate.

According to a former learner who now occupies a senior managerial position in the sugar industry, Cedric Mboyisa, Phathwa continues to be among the best of the best, producing amazing academic results.

“Both learners and teachers deserve praise for this outstanding outcome. Of course, not forgetting parents who also play a critical role.”

Mboyisa was speaking at a school function to announce the results for the Class of 2024.

The school achieved a 100% pass rate in Physical Science, Agricultural Science, History, IsiZulu and English.

The principal, Angel Ndlela, has been hailed for her turnaround strategy.

Mboyisa said that when Ndlela joined the school three years ago, the matric pass rate was just 65%. However, under her stewardship, the pass rate has been on an upward trajectory – 86%, 87% and 92.2%.

“This requires hard work, planning, focus and discipline. Learners must be willing to be guided,” said Ndlela.

Some of the matriculants attained six distinctions each.
