Marburg Primary fosters cultural exchange
The school welcomed Swedish delegates who observed classrooms and more.
Marburg Primary welcomed five Swedish delegates for the second year as part of an international exchange programme facilitated by project leader Gulshera Khan of Port Shepstone Twinning Association.
The three-day programme fostered cultural exchange, enhanced educational perspectives and strengthened South Africa-Sweden relations.
Delegates observed classrooms, visited cultural sites and engaged with local schools, including Barney’s Pre-Primary.
They gained insights into the South African education system, teaching methodologies and socio-economic context. Comparisons were made on leadership styles, curriculum structures, teaching strategies and student engagement.
Marburg teachers showcased learner-centred teaching and multilingual instruction while managing diverse classrooms. Swedish visitors observed resourceful teaching methods despite financial constraints.
Challenges such as overcrowding and language barriers were noted, alongside creative solutions. The exchange facilitated professional discussions, best practice sharing, and long-term relationships.
Swedish coordinator Christina Larsson expressed gratitude for an enriching experience on behalf of the team. This collaboration reinforced the value of international educational partnerships and set the stage for future engagements.
