Sheppie High visits rehab centre
The experience served as a valuable lesson in resilience, hope and kindness.
Port Shepstone High learners visited Sitholimpilo Rehabilitation Centre recently, which challenged preconceived notions of addiction, and highlighted the power of resilience and hope.
The visit was organised by the school’s social worker, Nqobile Mbuto.
The true impact of the visit came through the personal testimonies of the residents. Their brutally honest narratives of battling addiction, of moments both won and lost, and their journeys toward recovery deeply moved learners. These powerful stories underscored a critical lesson – addiction is a disease – not a choice.
The experience served as a valuable lesson in resilience, hope and kindness. Most significantly, they internalised the devastating consequences of drug use.
The visit also emphasised the personal responsibility individuals have in making positive changes, whether by choosing to abstain from drugs or seeking rehabilitation when struggling with addiction.
This eye-opening experience shifted the learners’ perspectives on life. They emerged with a heightened sense of empathy and understanding for those grappling with addiction.
They returned with a renewed determination to make a positive impact in their own lives and of those around them.
