DEAR Editor,
For two afternoons and nights, my Hindu neighbours have been setting off loud fireworks, including the illegal ‘big bangs’. The unrelenting noise continues as I write, promising another night of hell in Umtentweni.
What kind of person is happy to flout such arrogant contempt for the law, for neighbours, for pets, for wildlife, and then proclaim all the virtues attributed to Hinduism? When is the law going to deal with these breaches of the peace, which could very easily be policed by fining the dealers of these ‘big bangs’?
If the policing is corrupted at the dealers, then reaction to complaints at the source of the explosions would result in prosecution of both the offender and the seller, whose name, by law, would have to be divulged. Clearly the law enforcement authorities are as much to blame as the cruel offenders.
If this persists much longer, the situation is bound to arise where victims of these aural assaults retaliate in defence of their violated rights of peace in their homes and an end to cruelty to animals.
FURIOUS RESIDENT
