As a community member, and past parent of Jai Hind Primary, I am absolutely shocked and disappointed that a teacher missed 100 maths lessons with his classes!
Primary school maths is the foundation phase to high school maths and if this foundation phase is not grasped by students, it results in poor performance.
Where was the teacher and what was he doing during those times? How did the department condone his absenteeism? Was he at a workshop or union meeting?
It will be interesting to know if he is a union member and, if so, then I am sure he must be at one of the union meetings at the expense of our young pupils. Our children are our future leaders but if we have lazy teachers in the classrooms, how will our children progress? These young pupils will be our future leaders in years to come.
Many years ago, my own children attended Jai Hind Primary and they came out with the best education possible, enabling them to succeed in everything they did.
This particular teacher needs to take stock of himself whether he wants to teach or go on permanent leave. There are a number of good and excellent teachers at Jai Hind, who are totally committed to their profession, but unfortunately due to one or two teachers, the reputation of the school has been tarnished.
The department must name and shame the teacher/teachers. This kind of attitude and behaviour cannot, and will not, be tolerated. The education department needs to take strong action against this particular teacher.
Parents need to stand together and take this matter further if need be. After all, it is the future of our children that is at stake.
In view of this situation I will not allow my grandchildren to go to Jai Hind.
