DEAR Editor,-
I am Lwandile Mampofu’s cousin and have just re-read the article published in the South Coast Herald (October 25) regarding the three men on trial for killing Lwandile being acquitted of all charges and set free. I am so hurt, sad and devastated by this judgement handed over by the Ramsgate High Court. All three accused walked free. So, what is the court telling us here?
Did Lwandile severely beat himself to death? This is not right and something about this case is fishy. Somebody needs to tell the truth. How is it that not even a single one of them was called to book, while the police and courts know that Lwandile was brutally beaten and died at the hands of these three (or more) heartless, cruel men?
This is a disgrace and travesty to the justice system in South Africa. To us, Lwandile was not just a victim of cruelty and racism, to us as his family, he was a dearly beloved son, brother, father, uncle and cousin. A very quiet and peaceful soft-spoken young man of few words with a soft, tired smile.
But why did God let this happen to him? Why are these men so heartless? Don’t they think of the hurt and pain they caused to his family? How do they sleep at night knowing what they did to him, never showing any remorse or apologising to his family? It hurts so bad. This concludes for me the truth that if you are poor, there is no justice for you in South Africa.
My wish for the killers is that they never find peace in life, never find any joy, never get rest for their souls, and that they never sleep easy at night. May Karma follow them because what they did to Lwandile will follow them tenfold, until they tell the truth and apologise to his family.
Please publish my email in your paper for Lwandile’s sake – he needs a spokesperson as well.
