The murder and subsequent court case of Lwandile Mampofu has left many unanswered questions. Our law system guarantees protection of victims and the vulnerable, but in this case it is the opposite.
South Africa’s law system seems to be like an auction where the highest bidder (or the person with the best legal team) wins. Judge Jerome Mnguni points to conflicting statements as the main reason for arriving at his decision.
I don’t know how the law operates but I am a graduate in communication studies and know that no two persons who witness the same car accident can relate the event in the same way. So, I find it hard that Judge Mnguni could not find common ground in a big pool of witness statements.
In my view Judge Mnguni, in his judgement, is reversing the gains of democracy and taking this country 20 years backwards, thus making a mockery of transformation in the judicial system.
So what happened to the fourth witness? Did he get the R10 000 paid back? Judge Mnguni, Lwandile’s family and the community deserve an explanation on how he supposedly ‘committed suicide’.
