DEAR Editor,-
As the owner of a holiday accommodation establishment in Margate it is good to see the recent repairs/additions and general upgrades taking place on the South Coast, for example, the Margate fishing pier has been restored and improved; the airport has finally, and hopefully for good, reopened; potholes are being fixed; verges are being cleaned; Sebenza Village has grown and now even has a animal farm; a big new hotel is sprouting in Margate; buildings are being spruced up, and some new building activity has begun, etc.
There are two things I would be happy to see improve, and that I think would make a difference, namely, 1 The crossroads corner at the bottom of Bank Street (which is a landmark and the first impression of Margate). Most of it is standing empty, rundown and needs at the least a coat of paint; and 2 The empty shops at the far end of Margate – does anybody know what the plans are for these shops? Surely we won’t have a bunch of rundown empty shops across from the newly built hotel? Perhaps the hotel opening will stimulate some activity.
