DEAR Editor,-
In response to the sms Talk Back’s ‘Fed up’, it is strange that you should find nothing has changed on the South Coast. Don’t you know that the more things change, the more they stay the same? Has your Johannesburg billing system changed, are your potholes being repaired, do all your street lights and traffic lights work ? The South Coast is a good case of ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’. Yes, we can see the potholes (we drive through them daily) and the unkempt appearance of our towns, but in our own way we try to do the best we can with a bad lot. Be assured that the South Coast ratepayers who are concerned did not vote the present municipality into office in the same way as the Vaalies who are concerned didn’t vote their municipality in. Trust me, we are also despairing but it doesn’t alter the fact that it is a fine place to holiday .
On another tack, I am also sick and tired of you holidaymakers who come down here, play your music full volume, throw scraps out of the windows of your cars, drive your beach buggies or three wheeler ‘things’ and scrambler bikes up and down our roads, generally showing absolutely no concern for our environment or the people who live here. We feel like you do – go someplace else – we actually find holiday times ‘a pain in the proverbial’. If the shops make a couple of extra pennies out of you, so what, it probably makes up for the fact that they were awake all night listening to you partying.
As far as prices on the South Coast are concerned? Ha! You think this is bad, go and try shopping, hotelling, guest housing or even renting a holiday home in Ballito or Umhlanga Rocks.
We bet you’ll be back south next year.
