Make your woes heard through your vote

We owe it to future generations and to give South Africa a fighting chance on the world stage.

DEAR Editor,-

A very interesting time indeed in the political landscape of our country. People are scrambling around for political survival and expediency. The ruling party is as arrogant as ever and the government is clearly not listening to the people. We are at a precipice where every individual can make a difference. As much as people feel the entire system is a joke, the system is here to stay and we need to give control back to the people with your vote.

Any party with an overwhelming majority will be susceptible to corruption and arrogance in the face of poor service delivery. If we really want to achieve the ideals that Nelson Mandela sacrificed his life for, then we have to vote critically. We owe it to future generations and to give South Africa a fighting chance on the world stage.

I am still shocked at the misconception that voting for a party that is perceived white will take us back to apartheid. It is obvious that the ruling party has exploited the large population that is under-educated in politics and our beautiful constitution.

What we need is a balanced government where parties are able to keep each other in check. It does not matter who you vote for, but bear in mind that the gains of the ruling party over the past 20 years have been paltry to say the least. They had the opportunity to do so much more but were riddled with corruption and a lack of foresight.

Let’s make our woes heard through our vote.

VANI PATHER
