‘Gone to the dogs’

I did not take dogs out of the car as it would have been a problem.

DEAR Editor,-

Taking the dogs for their rabies vaccination has become just as painful as going to any other government department in this new South Africa.

I secured my two dogs in my vehicle and went to the inoculation site, Lions Grove, Solly’s Supermarket, on February 13 at 1pm. For the last seven years they were inoculated inside the vehicle because they are not ‘social’ around other dogs.

There was a sign on the government vehicle, written with a koki pen, probably by one of their grade R kids, saying that no animals will be inoculated in vehicles. I tried to explain but they didn’t want to listen. I did not take dogs out as it would have been a problem. I left in dismay and disgust at their ignorance and lack of understanding – after all it was my lunch break.
