DEAR Editor,-
We live on a quiet street in a not-so-quiet village anymore, called Trafalgar.
From an upstairs window, I have a bird’s eye view of all that happens in Hood Avenue and there are many dog owners who walk their doggies here. All the dogs are on leashes, except for one.
There is one owner who walks her dog without a leash and my question is – should there not be a rule that all dogs must be ‘walked’ with leashes? Watching the whole episode, this same dog was left unattended for three minutes last week, disappeared into the vacant plot opposite us and chased a bushbuck that was grazing there. This beautiful young ram died from the shock.
Although Craig Hoskens from Crag’s View Wild Care Centre was called and arrived while the buck was still alive, unfortunately he could do nothing to save the animal.
Allow me to also thank Craig for finding time in his busy schedule to come out to see whether he could assist and for returning to fetch the carcass the next day.
Our wildlife is diminishing fast and I feel that it is our duty to be more responsible and not contribute to the destruction of it.
