DEAR Editor,-
South African citizens were given a political multi-choice paper by the IEC to choose their political destiny. They had a choice of choosing tit-for-tat politics as propagated by the EFF or conventional and medieval politics represented by the IFP, or succumb to the anti-majority liberal offensive led by the media, the so-called civic societies and the DA.
We were accused of living in the past – historical materialism. Yes, we are guilty as charged, because the overwhelming majority went to the ballot box with an ambivalence of feelings. They thought of two Xhosa chiefs, Ndlambe and Ngqika, and their respective allies as prophet intellectuals, Nxele and Nstikana. Through their contrasting responses, these chiefs and their prophets laid the contours for the conduct and discourse of anti-colonial resistance, while grappling with the question of how to deal with the onrush of European modernity.
They took a stand to vote on behalf of King Sikhukhune, King Dingane, King Cetshwayo, King Bafokeng and all chiefs who fought the wars of land dispossession. We are the progenies of Dr John L Dube and his generations and also beneficiaries of their efforts, also thanking them for forming this august movement, the African National Congress.
We trust the leadership of the ANC will lead us to a prosperous future using their logical structure innate diagnosis, guiding policy and coherent actions to their programme – National Development Plan till 2094 and beyond uninterrupted.
