‘Caring angels need help’

There is an appeal for winter clothes and blankets if anyone happens to be cleaning out their cupboards.

DEAR Editor,-

After a rocky past and some really bad publicity, the care facility ‘Angels Care KZN’ in Paddock has now been reorganised and registered as a NPO with a board of trustees, including an auditor, engineer and a local doctor. It cares for about 50 to 60 people at any given time.

Angels Care is located near Lake Placid on a farm called Marah in Paddock and the farm owner has allowed the board the use of certain buildings, with free water and also supplies electricity to residents. The neighbour however, after initially offering the same facilities, has now gone back on the initial agreement which means that some of the residents have had to move.

As some people are aware, we have recently taken on the project to assist with the moving of three containers that house a number of residents and eight 2-man tents have also been erected to house people.

From funds in the Breakfast Club kitty and some extremely generous donations from benefactors, it was possible to pay for the relocation of containers onto ‘farm 1′.

We are currently engaged with Rotary and the Master Builders’ Association to raise funds to build an ablution block to improve the facility

One of the challenges that carers and residents face is the fact that night-time temperatures in Paddock are considerably lower than on the South Coast and we have received an appeal for winter clothes and blankets and would appreciate assistance from anyone who happens to be cleaning out their cupboards.

Items can be dropped off at the Tree Top Café, Sebenza Village, Lot 1 Ramsgate; MCB construction in Marine Drive, Shelly Beach; Nuform Scaffolding, Quarry Road, Uvongo, the offices of The Master Builders’ Association, Shelly Beach Business Centre, 786 Marine Drive; or at Mugg and Bean, Rendezvous Centre, Margate beachfront or the Southcoast Mall outlet.

Any assistance from the community will be highly appreciated. I can be reached at 083 6257417 or email address george.enslin@wakefields.co.za.
