DEAR Editor,-
Attached is a photograph I took recently whilst parked outside Pistols Saloon in Ramsgate and even though I emailed the traffic department, to date I have received no response. Last Friday my friend was involved in an accident on this stretch of road and her car was written off.
One of the major reasons for this, in my opinion, is that many people use this road to commute from Ramsgate to Southbroom and travelling from Ramsgate there is no speed bump on that side of the road, but coming from the other direction, there is a one in the road directly in front of Pistols Saloon.
It is not just buses, taxis and bakkies, but most cars cross over to the right-hand side of the road to miss the bump, and many a morning I have had to move onto the service lane (yellow line), almost ending up in the bushes from trying to dodge either a taxi or a bus.
The bus driver in the photograph was going at such a speed that if someone was coming from the opposite direction, they would not have made it.
This has been going on for the year that I have been driving to work on that road. and it is shocking that nothing is being done or that no-one else has complained.
What should happen there and every other area along the South Coast roads where there is a bump in the road on only one side? Should the bump not cross the whole road, to prevent what is happening and also to avoid head-on collisions, which are numerous on the South Coast lately?
