‘Police need thorough training’

Even the police were puzzled because there was no tangible evidence.

DEAR Editor,-

The Public Order Policing Unit of Port Shepstone, led by a diligent policeman (name reserved) and his unprofessional team, need to be put in order themselves before they put other people or public in order. They need further, thorough and professional service training for their jobs.

I have never been a policeman, but if I were I would not perform this task in the unprofessional way they did. On July 3, these policemen trespassed on my property in Port Edward and ‘secretly’ arrested my son and his friend for ‘suspicion of housebreaking and theft’. The boys were then dumped at the Port Edward police station with that exact statement, ‘suspected housebreaking and theft’ and that the ‘silly boys’ should be kept behind bars!

Consider the pain, cold nights, hunger, ill-treatment and restlessness they suffered for three nights without being charged. Even the Port Edward police were puzzled because there was no tangible evidence in front of them. The Port Edward police once gave a statement saying they do not ‘arrest for investigation, but investigate to arrest’.

The boys were released on the Sunday evening, after having spent three nights in custody and I suspect that, after having seen and reading this published letter, the Public Order Policing Unit will curiously and foolishly come back, because they have a negative attitude and a vendetta against my family. I will be waiting for them.
