DEAR Editor,-
We have been coming down to the South Coast for about 30 years, where we have also invested large amounts of money in developed properties.
We have never experienced such a decline in services, infrastructure, and just the general, total neglect of the area. You take your own life in your hands just by walking on the pavements. In Marine Drive, Manaba, around Lucky’s and the Hopdens KwikSpar, you could break a leg with the amount of holes in the pavement and all the debris lying around.
Across the road there is no pavement. How is it allowed that half-demolished buildings are left abandoned in a main street for months and maybe years? What an eyesore!
We trust that the Margate Business Association and Chamber of Commerce are involved with the Ugu Municipality in addressing areas of concern.
We would like to suggest that a committee be formed by the business sector to handle all matters of concern. Members need not be members of the Margate Business Association, but it should be chaired by a member of the association. Weekly meetings should be arranged with the municipality to address matters of concern.
We have just returned from a visit to the Western Cape and what a pleasure! Even in the small towns, everything works as it should.
