‘Southbroom can boast again’

The repair expense will be justified by making Southbroom even more popular.

DEAR Editor,-

I feel my sentiments would resound approvingly by all concerned, so on behalf of the many hundreds, if not thousands, of visitors to Southbroom over several decades holidaying here, I wish to thank the Hibiscus Coast Municipality for finally listening to reason and as can be seen, committing a large sum of money to repair the tidal pool on the main beach.

The pool and its surrounding area was for many visitors the epicentre of their stay in Southbroom. Family friendships were forged right next to the pool while relaxing on the beach or grass verge. Still today I know of families who now live elsewhere but fondly reminisce about time spent at and around the pool, with hopes of coming back.

The expense of repairs, I have no doubt, will be justified by making Southbroom even more popular and no doubt make a particular restaurant happy to see the ‘old crowds’ back.

Also rewarding to most of us locals who were regular users of the pool is the fact that for a time some ‘faux’ environmentalists apparently pressurised HCM to remove the facility altogether – for no sound environmental reason. Hopefully since they failed in this quest, they will in all probabily, once they observe the popularity of the area, join us for a swim.

Together with the very attractively upgraded ‘granny pool’ (congratulations on that too), Southbroom can once again boast about being a distinctive destination on the South Coast.
