‘Councils are the worst offenders’

What chance does the homeowner stand trying to keep alien creepers at bay?

DEAR Editor,-

If the fines are R5 million for homeowners, what is the fine for town councils and provinces as they are by far the worst offenders?

There are huge areas of invaders, in particular a creeper, and after big areas are burnt during winter, come the next rainfall, the only thing left growing is this creeper.

What chance does the homeowner stand trying to keep this at bay? Council, in its wisdom, indiscriminately chops down large trees despite the fact that we desperately need trees to clean the air which is being poisoned by car emissions.

Maybe we need some people who have chest and breathing problems to sue environmental affairs. Maybe this will balance the scales. Minister Edna Molewa needs to get real.
