‘Hunting register poses some questions’

Protection services stated that they cannot interfere, as this is the responsibility of Ezemvelo and the SPCA.

DEAR Editor,-

The register of hunters is one way of ensuring that culling is executed in an organised manner. However, there are questions that need answers, such as what environmental impact assessments are being carried out prior to calling in these hunters?

Who decides that these animals are a threat to human life – residents, hunters or municipalities? Should this not be left to the experts like Ezemvelo and SPCA? What method of culling is used? And have relocation programmes been considered?

Illegal hunting for buck with pack dogs occurs weekly in many areas and every time protection services were phoned, they stated in no uncertain terms that they cannot interfere, as this is the responsibility of Ezemvelo and the SPCA. These are crimes against the environment. There seems to be some confusion here.
