DEAR Editor,-
I read with interest the argument of ‘concerned’ people regarding those folks who want to enjoy a part of the beach in their birthday suits.
I also read with interest how scripture from the Holy Bible was used to justify opinions of individuals who were for and against those who wanted to enjoy nature in their nudity. The ‘holier than thou’ and ‘my morals are higher than yours’ was so evident. So similar to the Pharisee in the Bible from the book of Luke, chapter 18, who exalted himself in righteousness, in prayer.
This was contrary to the tax collector who also prayed, but in humility. Jesus said that the tax collector went home justified. Perhaps we may feel that as taxpayers we have a say as to how that portion of the beach should be used. But as television licence payers, we also have programmes of low morals and we switch channels when we are not happy. In the same way, switch beaches if not happy.
Jesus says in the book of Matthew, chapter 7, verse1 ‘Judge not, that you not be judged’. Remember, we are all sinners saved by grace. In the book of John, chapter 3, the word of God says Jesus did not come to condemn the world – rather the world through Him might be saved.
The point I want to make is that so much time and effort is put into this small portion of the beach, when there are major problems in our society.
As concerned citizens, we should be very worried about the drug problem that we have in the community. We have organisations tackling this problem, but definitely not enough.
House-breaking and robberies are taking place, just so the addicts can get a fix. I have encountered mothers crying because children are stealing from their own homes for a fix. Drugs are a scourge in our community, destroying young lives. I believe ‘concerned citizens’ should focus on addressing this problem, because it is really serious.
I work with drug addicts on a one-to-one basis through counselling and prayer. People dealing with drug addicts have their hands full and more help is needed. By the way, I am not in favour of nudism, but I don’t want to condemn or be judgmental.
