DEAR Editor,-
The ‘Pensioner robbed’ report on page 2 of last week’s Herald (May 22) was not entirely correct and I would like to set the record straight.
I sustained a knife cut of 5cm on one hand, my hands were tied behind my back with one of my own scarves and I was hit in the face with a cellphone. The telephone lines were cut and I was not forced to lie on the floor, I sat on the bed with one of the intruders who held a glass of water for me to drink.
Before leaving, he cut the scarf to free me. The other two perpetrators did the stealing and took a lot of food as well as the other items mentioned. They took money from my purse but left my ID book and bank cards. It was thought they had taken my handbag and keys, but two days later, these were found hidden behind the settee.
Another reason for this letter is to thank all who helped me. The ambulance and Gamalakhe clinic staff, and all the police officers were incredibly professional, helpful, caring and kind. That, plus the help and support of my friends and neighbours kept me going.
Thanks also to Educomp in Shelly Beach for their laptop assistance and to Margate Engineering for donating a new security gate.
VICTIM
