‘Buying a tavern became a nightmare’

So, off to Durban I went to visit the liquor authorities, who also saw no problem and I got my licence.

DEAR Editor,-

I recently put on my thinking cap to find a place where I could open a tavern in a residential area. A little shopping centre with an abandoned shop, I thought, would do very nicely.

Not long after searching, I found just such a place in downtown Margate, which, as luck would have it, had previously served as a tavern, but had been closed down because of non-adherence to licence conditions. Plus, there is an existing pub and bottle store on the site, and with the right contacts, everything is possible. So, off to Durban I went to visit the liquor authorities, who also saw no problem and I got my licence.

The unfortunate thing is that now the police have opened a case against me, the community is objecting and AfriForum has joined to support the effort of having me closed down! All this worries me because I have spent a lot of money revamping the place.

WHAT NOW

Margate
