OPINION: ‘Intersection remains an accident hot spot’

If basic rules of the road are enforced at this high accident zone, the road will be safer for all.

DEAR Editor,-

I think Njabulo Nyawose’s sentence was a bit harsh considering how many cars coming from Port Shepstone still turn right over the solid white line at the exact spot where the accident happened. Why are there no traffic police officers stationed at the intersection to enforce the rules of the road?

I previously wrote to the traffic department and to the newspapers about this accident hot spot – before Burry Stander had been killed – because I have never come across an intersection with so many accidents caused by a blind spot.

During the court case, someone from the traffic department said ‘it is ok to turn right there.’ That person should also be jailed. And there is still no sign prohibiting right turns! If some effort is put into getting these violations of the basic road rules sorted out, then the road will become much safer for all.
