OPINION: ‘Invaders are left to grow wild’

The grass has not been cut in months and there are now areas covered in weeds that have gone to seed.

DEAR Editor,-

I would like to bring your attention to the unsatisfactory state of the Sunwich Port beachfront parking area verge. It was previously well-maintained, but is now becoming infested with category 1 invaders, such as a large flowering paraffin bush, as well as a flowering lantana, which has set seed. In addition, a category 2 invasive castor oil plant has taken hold.

The grass has not been cut in months and there are now areas covered in weeds that have gone to seed. Furthermore, the lack of maintenance has resulted in an excessive growth in height of the natural bush, which means that instead of residents and holidaymakers being able to enjoy the magnificent beach view, they must stare into a neglected frontage.

It must be noted that by law, category 1 plant species may not be grown and must be eradicated.
