OPINION: ‘Tree removal request is blatantly ignored’

The cul de sac is being used as a dumping site for garden refuse.

DEAR Editor,-

After numerous attempts and requests to various people at HCM and ward councillors to have a tree removed, kindly afford me the opportunity to bring to your attention my dissatisfaction in the way my request has been treated. The tree’s root system has caused severe damage to the driveway and perimeter wall, which now poses a security risk because it provides easy access for vagrants and others, as well as the fact that my dogs are now able to get out.

On September 10, HCM showed up with a team of workers and a crane to start chopping down the tree. I was then informed that the tree was too big and a contractor would be called in, with a promise to keep me informed. Since then, not a word from their side.

Verge cutters were in the area on October 16, but only half of the cul de sac that I live in was trimmed and all cuttings were just left behind. The cul de sac is being used as a dumping site for garden refuse and my side of the cul de sac was not touched.

I am at the end of my tether, in my effort to have the matter addressed.
