THE expected ‘salt fall-out’ is starting to take effect and several people have reported problems with geysers and appliances (heh, heh).
One well known businessman said he had already replaced four geysers in the establishments he owned and insurance refused to pay (ha, ha).
Another said ‘salt week’ (as it will go down in the Hibiscus Coast history books) had cost him a small fortune as he still had to pay his staff while they twiddled their thumbs, waiting for quality water to flow again (chuckle, chuckle).
Ugu District Municipality exceeded all expectations and tap water was drinkable again in record time (about two weeks), but this also caught shops off-guard and they are now stuck with mountains of excess bottled water to sell (giggle, giggle).
While Ugu Mayor Ntombifikile Gumede humbly apologised for the ‘inconvenience’ and thanked all who helped quench the thirst of 180 000 residents, one suspects that we haven’t heard the end of this saga yet (LOL).
But not everyone lost out (snigger, snigger). Manufacturers of ‘Bio Enzyme Granules’ made a killing and are laughing all the way to your septic tank. South Coast plumbers might be wise to stay open over this festive season as then the salt might really hit the fan (guffaw).
Just in case you are puzzled about this mirth around a recent crisis that caused widespread panic initially, I am just following the example of our president who showed us the way in Parliament recently: No matter how bad the situation, laughter is always the best medicine.
For those who might not have seen the “Jayzee Show – Live”, our Number One Citizen laughed his way through a question and answer session from opposition parties. In fact, an EFF member even had to remind him that he was not Trevor Noah.
President Zuma: “I don’t know how to stop my laughter. Is it hurting?”
Well, some might reply: “Yes!” But there is merit in what Dr Zee prescribes.
One should always follow the leader so I decided to give it a go this week when thinking about our most pressing problems. Eureka! It works! Laughter IS the ‘best medicine’ and science has also proved it.
A quick ‘Giggle’ search showed that this barmy ‘balm’ is backed up by doctors. Paul E McGhee, PhD: “Your sense of humour is one of the most powerful tools (that) you have to make certain that your daily mood and emotional state support good health.”
So let’s throw salt to the wind and giggle along merrily in the face of adversity – like our President – and have a very merry Christmas (ho, ho).
