SOUTH Coast Striders last week awarded Stephanie Markram, a past committee member, the accolade of honorary life membership of the club.
Stephanie joined the club in 1992, after belonging to Run/Walk for Life. She quickly became a more than adequate athlete and went on to complete the ultimate human race, the Comrades Marathon.
In her later years she was the one picking up all the awards for first place in the races she competed in.
Her wonderful attitude and willingness to help others are what makes her most special. Stephanie, you are a heroine to many. We wish you all our love and pray you get better soon.
In regular news, an evening fun run was held at the clubhouse in Uvongo last Friday. There was a sea of red as new local school, Samurai Study Centre, arrived en masse.
The headmistress, Riana van Schalkwyk, made it a compulsory event for her school and all of the students excelled and seem to make the difficult 5km look easy.
I do believe that some of them have huge talent in the athletics scene.
The next fun run is on February 26. Don’t miss out on this one.
A 4km or 8km time trial is run from the club house in Edward Avenue every Wednesday at 5.30pm and the walking time trial start at 5.15pm.
