“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:34
ISRAEL had been journeying for many days now and they were growing tired and weary and with the wilderness being a harsh, inhabitable, hostile land where food supply was scarce, they were hungry and irritable.
They remembered all of the delicacies they had enjoyed in Egypt and in their fearful state, they turned on Moses… “For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.” Exodus 16:3.
Their fears and complaints reached the hearing of God, Who was watching over them night and day and He rained bread from heaven for them.
And so God supernaturally provided for His people in the wilderness and He gave Moses instructions to give to them on how they were to gather their food.
They were to gather enough just for the day as God provided for them a fresh supply of bread every day except on the Sabbath. God called it bread but the house of Israel called it Manna. Exodus 16:31.
This present day is a stark contrast to those times in biblical history. We’ve forgotten or perhaps don’t really know how to cry (trust) to God for help.
But this is so undignified, you may say.
Maybe that worked in Moses day, when man was not as educated and did not possess as many skills.
Modern, self-made, independent man does not cry for help. He’s got it all under control. He can provide for himself and his family. He knows how to make a plan.
While we continue to look within ourselves for solutions to our problems, stress has risen in power, with fear, worry and anxiety dictating our way of life.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to provide even the basic necessities for our families and this lack of provision has resulted in many social evils and not to mention the untold harm stress has imposed on our health.
But this is not how we, the people of God, were meant to live – to be enslaved by fear.
God made a way for us to live in His super-abundance, when Jesus, stepped into our worries and anxieties in His sermon on the mount and assured us of the Fathers’ provision for us, His people.
He said, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:34.
Jesus was reminding them about the principle of the manna, when God supernaturally provided daily, fresh bread for their forefathers in the wilderness.
We exact from this principle the same wisdom given to them then. Today, after the cross, we see the manna as the daily supply of the grace that God has given to nourish, replenish, restore and refresh our whole being – our spirit, soul and body.
“I am the bread of life.” Jesus made this declaration in John 6:48. The fullness has come! We need no longer gather, grind and beat any more, (man’s effort) Numbers 11:48, as the fullness has come in Christ.
We are not a people forsaken. We are not a people abandoned. We are not a people forgotten. We are a people loved. God’s grace empowers, His grace enables, His grace supplies –take as much as you need for the day. This grace is sufficient.
This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24.
