Wayne’s World: Big race looms for Kerry

Qualifying spots are the runners' focus.

THE qualifying time for this year’s Comrades Marathon has arrived.

Many first-timers to will be lining up at the start of this year’s Maritzburg City Marathon and most of the novice runners will be among them to cross the finish line in under five hours, giving them the right to line up at the start of the ultimate human race in May.

One such person from South Coast Striders is Kerry Farren. Her best time for any previous marathon has always been just outside the five-hour qualifying time.

But with a far more determined approach to this year’s event and better training I have no doubt she will be one of many standing at the finish of this Sunday’s race with a big smile on her face and clutching onto her deserved medal and Comrades qualifying spot.

Kerry informs me that her son Morgan will be celebrating his 8th birthday on Sunday and she will be dedicating her race to him.

I believe there are about 80 South Coast Striders taking part in the 10km, 21.1km and 42.2km events this year and would like to wish them a strong race. Make every stride count.
