OPINION: ‘New dump emerges in Uvongo’

At the moment this dump is higher than the wall of the adjacent complex.

DEAR Editor,-

I refer to all the recent photos and articles in the South Coast Herald on how bad things have become on the South Coast. More than a year ago, HCM and/or Ugu repaired a pipe on the corner of Edward and Umthunzi Roads in Uvongo. To do the repairs, local authorities had to remove trees on the sidewalk. They worked on the pipe for months and eventually repaired it at the end of last year.

Needless to say, the local authority did not remove the rubbish and tree branches from the sidewalk. After numerous phone calls I stopped reporting the matter because all you get is promises and promises.

And what is happening now? Everybody thinks that it is a rubbish dump and have been dumping their garden refuse on top as well. At the moment this dump is higher than the wall of the adjacent complex. HCM cuts the grass and verges around the heap of rubbish, but refuses to remove it from the sidewalk.

I think it can only do good if one of your reporters visits the spot with a camera. Maybe that will awaken HCM if they see this nice dump in the middle of a residential area.
