DEAR Editor,-
The Tweni ratepayers were pleased to see the Hibiscus Coast Municipality install new LED lighting on the R102 between the Jaxx Restaurant and the Rethman Drive robots. However in some places the overhanging branches obscure the light.
In September 2015 we reported this to the municipality through the HCM help desk. In took ten weeks to receive a reference number and after 14 weeks, we finally had a reply from a HCM manager stating that it was the responsibility of the Department of Transport to cut back the branches. Cllr Tap Kruger approached the Department of Transport in Port Shepstone who said that it was the HCM’s responsibility to cut back the branches!
The recent storms saw some overhanging branches fall and take out one of the newly-installed lights and one motorist can count himself lucky to be alive after a falling branch hit the bonnet of his car.
Will it take a death to stop the ‘buck passing’ and get some accountability and service delivery?
