BY now you would have guessed that I am passionate about good healthy water!
I would like to share with you a little about this fantastic gift that God has given to us here on the South Coast and to anyone serious about their health.
I have been on the Coast in Hibberdene for the past 45 years give or take a few years.
I then moved to Vryheid where I was in the trading store business until I again moved down to Hibberdene and have been back here for 38 years.
We (my wife and four boys) stay on a small holding and have relied on a small borehole that yielded about 400 litres per hour.
This was enough for our household needs.
About 35 years ago we went through a severe drought where the farmers got Government subsidies for drilling for water.
I had spoken to someone who could show where water could be found, but it was not the normal diviner who walks around with a stick or wire to show a water source.
This was done by the late Mr Mante who came with a machine that sends sound-waves into the earth to show any breaks in the rock formation.
Long story short, he found a break but it was very close to my property boundary and next to the road.
I asked him if he could follow the break to possibly closer to the centre of the property.
From the point where he felt was the best, he went east for about 20 metres and it disappeared. Then he went west and again exactly 20 metres and it again disappeared.
The same happened when he followed the path south and also north.
He explained to me that this had never happened before and that it was an unusual source.
There were apparently two water springs that came up vertically from who-knows-where and at an approximate 100 metres underground crossed over and disappeared down again.
Because the point of access was so close to the road, we marked the place and left it for another time.
In 1985 we again experienced a severe drought and again there was a frantic drive to drill for water.
I was running my Trading Store at that time and had employed a night watchman for the premises.
A young driller asked me if I would allow him to park his rig in front of the shop as he was planning to leave the following day to return back to the Free State where he lived.
I agreed and asked him if he would mind drilling in an easily accessible spot for me and that I was prepared to pay for his diesel and any casings that were needed for the hole.
He was willing to do that as compensation and early the next morning he started to drill.
By lunch time he hit water and it was absolutely amazing to see the amount of water that came gushing out.
He tested the flow at 35 000 litres per hour constant.
As I did not require such an amount of water, we capped the hole until we built a shopping centre and needed water.
I phoned Echalez and Osborne to have the water tested. I was informed that it would take about two weeks for the result and that they would give me a certificate.
I thanked them and left two one litre samples for them to test.

The next afternoon I received a phone call from them to ask where this water came from.
I thought that maybe I was being warned that the water was not good for human consumption.
I asked him as to why the concern, to which he replied that he had tested coastal water for over 10 years and had never found water of this quality.
I asked him to explain what he meant by quality to which he informed me that this water had the exact requirements needed by our bodies.
At that stage it still did not mean anything to me as I thought that all waters were the same.
When I delved into different waters and their properties I realised just how different waters can be – from high iron to brackish to poisonous…..and the list goes on!
I then started reading up on water and found that water has incredible properties.
From distilled water (rain) or snow on the mountains, this water would travel underground and gather up any minerals that were in its path.
This process is not orchestrated by man, but is how God created the Earth.
I now realise that the water that we have here in Hibberdene is a total gift from God.
My ideal is to treat it as such to help those who really need it as well as to create employment for those who need it.
My question will always be: Why would level-headed people subject themselves to anything less than what God has provided for us.
He created us and surely knows what we need. Our bodies consist of 90 percent water!
We can go without food for 40 days without dying, but we cannot go without water for more than three days.
What does that tell you!
So next time you take a much needed drink of water, ask yourself whether you are helping your body or ignoring what God has put in place for us. Why would anyone harm his or her body by drinking water that has had all the goodness taken out of it?
BUT then why do so many people do drugs and everything else that harms you?
Makes you think!
