Inspiration: Your inheritance is ‘son’

Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son and if a son then an heir of God through Christ, Galatians 4:7.

THE love of God is something that man, since the inception of time, has with his fallen, feeble mind struggled to comprehend.  And yet for all the greatness that he has achieved, this one precious truth still evades him.

There was a time when receiving your earthy inheritance brought joy and some degree of honour to the one receiving it.  But down through time, greed and jealousy has caused this privilege to become grossly misrepresented.  There are many who have been cheated out of their earthly inheritance.  Some have been deemed unworthy of even receiving one and then there are those who have died tragic deaths in the name of inheritance.  And the thing that was once meant to bring joy can now sometimes be the cause of heartache and tragedy.  It is plain to see that the honour and prestige this word ‘inheritance’ once had, has been lost.

But for those of us who are sons, in our Father’s Kingdom, through Jesus Christ God’s Son, this privilege of our promised inheritance could not be more attractive.  We recently laid to rest a loved one in our family and while there were no inheritance issues, I began in the days following to recount his life, which was fraught with many disappointments, hurt and pain.  For one, who is a son in the Kingdom of God, this was tragic.  How this must have grieved the heart of our Father, who gave us everything in His Son Jesus, to see him live outside his inheritance.  Sadly, much of God’s people live this way and many of them are good people, who sincerely love God.

It has become increasingly important and necessary, in this day, to have a revelation of who you are as a son of God.  Scripture tells that God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  Romans 5:8.

In effect we received our inheritance at the point of Christ’s finished work on the cross.  How amazing is this, to think that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us and gave us our inheritance – the son of God.  We did nothing to earn it, nothing to deserve it.  It is given.  That is the Father’s benevolent spirit toward us. His love has withheld nothing from us.

It can be clearly seen that God has blessed us based on His goodness and not our own.  He has given us His grace that is sufficient – a supply that is unending.  We have His supply of grace for healing, for our finances, for wisdom, for raising our children, for our marriage, for favour.  This supply has always been there and will always be there.  But our unbelief, through wrong believing of who God is and our lack of diligence in persevering in His Word, that has stayed this supply.  You have been given the authority to execute but to exercise your authority, you must know your inheritance – your inheritance is son.
