OPINION: Event support was overwhelming

URC urges residents and businesses to support the fund-raisers and give baby Gabriella Dry a similar chance in life.

DEAR Editor,-

The Umbango River Conservancy (URC) and the Keshivan Govender Medical Trust committee hosted a joint fund-raiser on Freedom Day to ensure that baby Keshivan Govender is given a chance to exercise the basic right of mobility.

This event was well-executed and enjoyed by everyone who turned up at the grounds, some as early as 6.30am. The success of this event can only be attributed to the warmth and giving nature of residents and businesses. I wish to place on record our sincere gratitude to Sandra Maharaj of Total Media Solutions, who assisted the conservancy willingly with regard to advertising. Lazer 911 once again ensured that all present were in a safe environment. Their sense of community policing is truly appreciated.

The South African Police Services must also be commended for their involvement – one police officer in full uniform walked up the mountain with a group of hikers. We also want to acknowledge regular assistance rendered by Illovo Sugar which ensures that the work of the conservancy progresses.

Fun and gaiety was the order of the day, made possible by those individuals who sponsored many prizes and water for the event. Their generosity has been a blessing to this fund-raiser. Vibrant emcee Anandh Badrinath ensured that everyone was well entertained and that they left with wonderful memories.

In conclusion, URC urges residents and businesses to support the fund-raisers and give baby Gabriella Dry a similar chance in life. Once again, thank you to all who helped. God bless
