DEAR Editor,-
Herald journalist Sugan Naidoo’s story about the goings-on at the Port Shepstone Licensing Department is really dreadful and it would appear that I have been very lucky. I went to renew my licence a month ago, choosing to go (as I always do when dealing with government offices) at around 2pm. There were about ten people ahead of me and plenty of seats on which to sit and wait. The entire procedure from the eye test and fingerprints to joining another queue of about three people to pay for the licence took just over an hour. I was told that I could come back in two weeks to collect my new licence, but waited until four weeks had passed. I went just before midday on Monday this week and there was one person in front of me at the enquiries counter. I fully expected to be told that the licence had not arrived, but blow me down, there it was waiting for me! Everyone was very courteous. Clearly I am one of the very lucky ones.
