Inspiration: Fields of grace

God's strength is made perfect in our weakness.

But Sarai was barren; she had no child. Genesis 11:30

Then God said: no, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I shall establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him. Genesis 17:19

ISAAC means laughter. The Kingdom of God is a productive kingdom. This marked characteristic is clearly evident in God’s creative work in Genesis; the book of beginnings, His redemptive work in the New Testament through to Revelation.

Abraham who is called the father of the Jewish nation was married to Sarah. She was barren and remained barren well past the time of impossible to conceive and have a child.

So when God came to them and promised them a son, they laughed. But regardless of the circumstances, God’s Word never fails. Sure enough, according to God’s Word, at the well past ‘be fruitful and multiply’ age of 100 years old, Abraham became a father when Sarah gave birth to their son, Isaac – the son of promise. She was ninety years old. Abraham and Sarah is a picture of God’s pure grace, which is God’s unearned –undeserved-unmerited favour.

We have all experienced degrees of barrenness at some point in our lives, be it in our finances, marriage, parenting, career and so on.

And at times this can become quiet scary, depressing or even overwhelming. But what may seem as the end for us, God sees as a way to demonstrate His love and mercy toward us.

This barrenness is fertile ground for God’s grace- as it is His grace that is attracted to our weaknesses. His strength is made perfect in our weakness.

The son of promise, Isaac was conceived in the midst of Sarah’s barrenness and brought laughter into her life. This is a divine privilege which you too can enjoy when you believe God and take Him at His Word. God delights in you. We see this when we look at the cross.

God’s grace produces fruitfulness. Glean from the fields of grace where there is bountiful supply, productivity and fruitfulness. You will see the promises of God breakthrough the areas of barrenness in your life and bring you laughter that is not empty or frivolous but laughter that is satisfying, rewarding and fulfilling.

God sent His Son into this barren wasteland to give us life. Live the life He came to give you. This is His desire for you.

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing. Psalms 30:11-12.
